Greetings!

Welcome to The Moving Finger Blog site. As the title tagline says it is a forum for rational political discourse. It is my intention to post blogs about political topics of interest to me and hope I can generate discussion about them as a means of sharing opinions and information. I have no illusions that anything I may write or comments of others about what I post will change anyone’s mind. That is not the intent. My hope is that the Moving Finger blog will allow people to share opinions rationally without rancor or insult, and in so doing we will provide different perspectives that may cause us to think, to reconsider, and to appreciate that ours is not just the only or necessarily correct perspective.

I am not looking for agreement with what I write. I expect there to be a wide range of opinions expressed here, and that is fine. I am looking for commentary and dialogue that is reasoned and rational that seeks not to inflame or defame but to inform. I do not believe anything is gained by showing disrespect of another or another’s opinion.

The Founders of the United States were men of deeply held convictions, and they argued their points of view intently. Yet, they understood that to form a more perfect union they had to compromise and to recognize that there were other opinions and perspectives, and these had to be respected if they expected others to acknowledge their opinions as having merit.

If we on this blog site can operate in similar fashion, then, perhaps there is hope for us yet. Time will tell.
